Hate List
This book is about death, grief and hope. May 2nd, a massacre happened at Garvin High School. The shooter, Nick, aimed on those people whose names are listed in the Hate List. A notebook belongs to Nick's girlfriend, Valerie. The aftermath, people blame Val and they believe she was involved in the shooting spree, the fact that she wasn't and she didn't even know about it, at all.Reading this book was actually very depressing. It took me days to finish it and I'm relieved I've managed to the end. Val and Nick, they just hate everyone because they got bullied and they being disliked by those popular kids. Are popular kids really that jerk? Besides, Val's parents have trouble in their marriage. I hate her parents because they didn't trust her and they believed she killed those students. However, I hate her dad even more. He's so plain selfish and the only thing he wants is to get rid of Val from his life. He wants Val's mother to responsible on their daughter, so then he can off the hook and to live happily ever after with his mistress. Worst, Val's scared of her jerk-daddy which makes her so plain stupid.
What I liked in this book are the massacre, the news about it, the reasons those students killed and the psychiatrist. Of course, the massacre is definitely not a good thing but it's interesting to read. I really wish it's more about Nick rather than about Val. I wanted to know what had gotten Nick to do it - APART from the hate, of course. I just crave for details, you know. Besides, I liked Dr. Hieler. He's a nice, understanding, patience and good listener doctor. I like him very much and he's my favourite character in this book.
So overall, it's fine writing. Intense and very depressing but manageable.
