Simply Irresistible (A Lucky Harbor Novel)
My first by Jill Shalvis and oh I liked it so much! Got this book as one of my favourites so far. This book is so heartwarming. I enjoyed the humour pretty much, I truly enjoyed the romance. I liked the characters and the flow of the story too. It was interesting and intriguing read. And I couldn’t put this book down and stayed up late night only just to finish it. I know, it was crazy. Nuts, indeed. The book’s about romance between Maddie and Jax, and late mother who left an inn called Lucky Harbor Resort to Maddie and her two other sisters. What I liked best is the “recipe of life” cards written by Phoebe, their mother because I found it unique and some of the quotes are funny. The setting is on fall/winter/Christmas season which made me love this book much because I’ve been wanting read books with Christmas theme for this month of December.
Let’s talk about characters shall we?
I really liked a guy like Jax Cullen. He’s multi-talented. He’s a lawyer, a mayor, and a contractor. And, he can cook too. That’s amazing, you know. ‘Cause I love a guy who can cook. Besides, he’s loving, caring kind of guy. He’s good to people. Really nice, though. Besides, he also has past. Dark past, indeed and he resented himself for that.
As for Maddie the Mouse, I loved her so much. She’s cute, really cute. She’s pretty and if I were a guy, I would fall in love with her too. I hated what had happened with her. She’s a nice, kind, and loving and thus she shouldn’t experience violence in her life. She’s vulnerable kind of person, really fragile one and it makes you want to protect her from anything harm. However, she has changed. She’s brave, she stands up for herself and she doesn’t allow people to decide anything for her anymore. Bravo, Maddie!
Besides, other characters mentioned in this book. Jax’s best friends/brothers — Ford the bar owner of Love Shack, ex-sailor and Sawyer the sheriff. They’re hot. Maddie’s two sisters — Tara the Steel Magnolia, the eldest and the cooking expert, and Chloe the Wild Thing, beautician and crazy. I enjoyed the banter between Tara and Chloe. It’s just really funny.
Maddie and Jax’s first encounter with each other was hilarious and cute. I can say that it somehow sort of like “cute meet”. If you watched a movie called The Holiday, I got the term “cute meet” from the movie. Why I said their first meeting is “cute meet” then? Read the sentence below:
What she needed now was an exit plan. So she put her phone to her ear, pretending it was vibrating. “Hello,” she said to no one. “Yes, I’ll be right there.” She smiled, like look at me, so busy, I really have to go, and, turning away, she lifted a hand in a wave, still talking into the phone to avoid an awkward good-bye, except— Her phone rang. And not the pretend kind. Risking a peek at Hot Biker Guy over her shoulder, she found him brows up, looking amused.
I was like “oh crap you busted! That is so embarrassing!” And, LOL big time From then on, I knew this book would give me utter satisfaction. What a great tactic to attract readers with humour from beginning. Awesomeness, Ms. Shalvis!
I’m currently reading the sequel which is about Tara and Ford. Oh, the duo has history before. Wonder what it is.
Again, thank you very much Jae for the recommendation. You rock!
