Wicked Intentions (Maiden Lane)

Wicked Intentions - Elizabeth Hoyt This is my first by Elizabeth Hoyt. I couldn't resist the temptation to start this series because most bookworms I've acquainted liked it and some loved it. Plus, it has an eye-catching high rating.

It's Temperance and Lazarus' love story and with a little bit of Jack the Ripper. There, one of the reason I picked on this book to read. I liked reading something like or close to Jack-the-Ripper sort, with the horror and gory, absolutely scary plus thrill. The romance was mild at the beginning and also at the middle but only started getting better afterward. The saucy, steamy part wasn't that intense as I was told. It was okay and believe me, I've read worst.

On love story part, both hero and heroine are tortured souls. Lazarus has this phobia called fear of touch, got that when he was still a child, his dark past. Also, until Temperance, he had zero clue on love. Thus, he's being cold-hearted and straightforward. Whilst Temperance, she's afraid to express her true self and that is she enjoys and loves sex. To please people, to achieve people's fine expectation on her, she became someone she's not and doing something she has no heart, desire in it. She felt hurt and suffered. Also, she's afraid to express her love and care towards others because she's afraid the very one consequence that might bite her back: hurt. However, with Lazarus, she can be herself and she love.

On mystery part, I was expecting gory but I was expecting more on more gory plus excitement. That would add for more suspense and it would be convenient for an adrenaline junkie like me. Too bad it wasn't that intriguing. I honestly wish the mystery and suspense part were detailed, developed more, and complex. It would make this premise far more better and I'm sure readers would love it. I would love it too. Oh, this Ghost of St. Giles has totally caught my attention and since I just started with Book 1, currently reading Book 2, I've still got no clue who's behind the mask. Mysterious, interesting enough.

To utterly bummer yet exciting was on Silence's story. Her small, minor part story almost stole - perhaps stole entirely - the spotlight from Temperance and Lazarus' story. My confession: Yes, I enjoyed Silence's story more than I enjoy Temperance's. That's so not good, you know. So not good at all. One solid reason why I'm currently reading Book 2 because I just cannot wait to devour on Book 3!

P.S. Oh, I loved King Lockedheart's short love story too.
P.P.S. By the way, most characters have weird names. Honestly, it was hard for me make those weird names normal to me. Weird on silver hair too.

Highly recommended if historical romance with small bits of erotica pleases you. Worth it and sure you would love it.
